Programmeur estonien, Jaan Tallinn a notamment participé au développement des logiciels Skype et Kazaa.
Il a fondé le Center for the Study of Existential Risk avec Huw Price et Martin Rees. Jaan Tallinn est également co-fondateur de l'Institut Future of Life et soutient plusieurs organismes de recherche sur les risques existentiels liés notamment à l'intelligence artificielle.
