OpenAI is expanding access to Operator, its artificial intelligence agent, to European users. Initially deployed in the United States, Operator is now available in preview for Pro subscribers in Europe, including Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland, via operator.chatgpt.com.
Operator is based on the Computer-Using Agent (CUA) model, combining the multimodal capabilities of GPT-4o with reasoning techniques developed through reinforcement learning. This agent can interact with web browsers to perform various tasks according to user requests.
Tasks that can be performed by Operator include filling out online forms, placing online orders, or booking services. Users simply state their request, and Operator performs the necessary actions. Users can take control at any time, and Operator can also proactively request human intervention for certain sensitive operations, such as password changes or security checks.
To ensure the agent meets the practical needs of users, OpenAI collaborated with several companies, including DoorDash, Instacart, Uber, and OpenTable.
The goal of Operator is notably to improve repetitive processes and customer interactions for businesses. Operator also allows managing multiple tasks simultaneously, in the manner of a traditional browser.
The preview version of Operator is available to Pro users on operator.chatgpt.com in France, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland, following an initial deployment in the United States. This experimental phase aims to gather user feedback in order to gradually enhance the agent's capabilities for broader integration within ChatGPT for Plus, Team, and Enterprise users.
